Connect Apple TV to Mullvad
Use Mullvad on Apple TV with a WireGuard configuration file. Create it in your Mullvad account, send it to the TV with WaveSocket and connect.

You need a paid Mullvad account, an Apple TV with the WaveSocket app and a phone or computer on the same network as the TV. Mullvad does not offer an Apple TV app. It provides WireGuard configuration files for devices that support them, and WaveSocket imports standard WireGuard files.
A Mullvad account can have up to five WireGuard keys at a time, each for a different device. The key you create for Apple TV uses one of them. If all five are in use, first remove a device you no longer use from your Mullvad account. Mullvad warns that a key shared between devices is likely to cause connection problems.
Create the configuration
These steps follow Mullvad’s WireGuard configuration guide.
- Sign in on Mullvad’s website with your account number and open the WireGuard configuration page.
- Under Platform, choose iOS or macOS (Apple TV is not listed), then select Generate key.
- Choose a country, a city and a server. You can also select DNS content blockers.
- Select Download file and keep the
.conffile on the phone or computer you will use for the transfer.
Mullvad’s kill switch option is only for Linux files and is unavailable when iOS or macOS is selected. It adds system commands to the file, and WaveSocket does not import files that contain scripts or system commands.
Import on Apple TV
- On Apple TV, open WaveSocket and choose Profiles → Add VPN profile → Upload from your browser, then select Start upload session. If a VPN is connected, disconnect first.
- On the phone or computer with the file, scan the QR code on the TV or open the address shown. Enter the code shown on the TV in the 4-digit code field.
- Select Choose file, pick the
.conffile and select Send to Apple TV. - Review the profile on Apple TV. Choose Rename to give it a clear name such as Mullvad Stockholm, then choose Save profile.
Use a trusted home network for this step. The import guide explains the transfer and the other import methods.
Connect and check
WaveSocket selects the saved profile and opens Connection. Choose Connect. The first time, allow Apple TV to add the VPN configuration. Look for Server verified and a recent time next to Oldest peer handshake age.
Every WaveSocket feature is free for three minutes per connection, so you can try your Mullvad setup before choosing WaveSocket’s Lifetime access, which removes the time limit.
Locations and app features
Each file connects to the server you chose. For another location, reuse the Apple TV key in Mullvad’s generator instead of selecting Generate key again, so the new file does not use another of your five keys. If the generator no longer shows that key, enter the private key from your first file.
Import each file as a separate profile: disconnect, start a new upload session and save it. To switch later, disconnect, open the other profile in Profiles and choose Use profile.
Mullvad describes these as features of its own apps, not of a configuration file:
- automatic key replacement
- obfuscation for restrictive networks
- DAITA
- split tunnelling
Outside its app, Mullvad offers a quantum-resistant tunnel through a separate helper tool that a PostUp command starts. WaveSocket does not import files with PostUp or other commands, so this option is not available on Apple TV.
WaveSocket can keep address ranges out of the tunnel with Excluded routes in Edit profile, but it does not split traffic by app.
If it does not connect
- Check that your Mullvad account still has time remaining.
- This configuration’s key must still be registered in your Mullvad account. If you removed the device there, create a new configuration.
- Do not use the same file on another device at the same time.
Then follow the order of checks in connection troubleshooting.
These steps are based on Mullvad’s published documentation as checked on 16 October 2026, not on WaveSocket’s own testing with Mullvad.
